Booking terms & refund policy

[DRAFT — awaiting WBS details and solicitor review]

Draft for solicitor review — not yet in force. Online deposits must stay switched off until this page is approved. >Open legal question for the solicitor: a residential summer course sold together with accommodation, airport transfers or excursions may be a "package" under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. If WBS is treated as the organiser or retailer of a package, it may need insolvency protection for money it takes. Please confirm WBS's role (disclosed agent of the course organiser) and how deposits must be held (for example in a client or trust account).

1. Who you are contracting with

British Summer Schools is operated by Which Independent Schools Ltd, trading as Which British School ("WBS"). WBS acts as agent for the school or course organiser named on the course page (the "Organiser"). Your contract for the course itself is with the Organiser and is governed by the Organiser's own booking terms, which we will send you before your place is confirmed.

2. The deposit

  • The deposit shown on the course page (normally £500) is paid to WBS by card through Stripe.
  • It is paid to secure an application for a place. It does not guarantee a place until the Organiser confirms one in writing.
  • Once a place is confirmed, the deposit is deducted from the course fee.

3. If a place can't be confirmed

If the Organiser cannot offer a place on the course and dates you asked for, and you do not accept an alternative, we will refund your deposit in full to the card you paid with within 14 days.

4. If you cancel

  • Before a place is confirmed: full refund of the deposit.
  • After a place is confirmed: the Organiser's cancellation terms apply. We will tell you what they are before you accept the place.
  • Within 14 days of paying the deposit: you can cancel for a full refund of the deposit, even if a place has been confirmed, unless the course starts within those 14 days. We offer this whether or not the statutory 14-day cancellation right applies to your booking (residential and leisure courses on fixed dates can fall outside it under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). It does not reduce any rights you have by law.

5. Prices and changes

Course dates and fees on this website come from the Organiser and are checked by WBS. The Organiser's confirmation is final. If the fee changes before your place is confirmed, we will tell you and you can cancel for a full refund of the deposit.

6. Your responsibilities

You must give accurate information about the student, including age, English level, medical needs and any safeguarding information the Organiser needs. Visas, travel insurance and passports are your responsibility unless the Organiser states otherwise.

7. Complaints

Contact us first at info@britishsummerschools.com. We will reply within 3 working days and, where the complaint is about the course itself, pass it to the Organiser and help you resolve it.

8. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Nothing in them affects your statutory rights.
